Beresta | বেরেস্তা | Crispy fried onions 

Beresta or crispy fried onion is a basic thing in Indian or Bangladeshi cooking. This finely sliced crispy fried onions are very flavourful and add both crunch and flavour to a recipe. Dishes made with beresta gets an aromatic and smoky taste. It is also used as garnish for biriyani, pulao, meat and rice.

Traditionally Beresta is done by frying onions in lot of oil. However here it is done in microwave with very less oil and without any hassles. 

How to make Beresta or crispy fried onion 

Ingredients:

Onion cut into lengthwise – 2 Big

Oil – 2 Tbsp

 

Microwave used IFB, Full Power 800W 

Method:

1.      In a microwave safe bowl mix the onions and 2 Tbsp oil. Coat the onions thoroughly with oil.

2.      Microwave in high power for 5 minutes.

3.      Take the bowl out and stir thoroughly. Microwave in high power for another 5 minutes.

4.      Take out and stir.

5.      Now microwave high for 2 minutes. Take out and stir.

6.      Now microwave at high power in 1 minute interval and stir till you get crispy beresta (fried onion)

7.      Cool the beresta naturally. Once cool keep in airtight container for later use.

 

Note: Timimg will depend on Microwave power, Quantity and cutting thickness.
