Dahi Bhalla without frying | Dahi Bhalle | Dahi Vada | Healthy Recipe
Dahi
Bhalla is a popular street food from North India. Here vadas are generally deep
fried and coated with creamy yoghurt and topped with Indian chutneys. For
making it healthy, vadas are not deep fried instead it is fried in Appe pan
with very less oil.
Ingredients
(Serves: 3-4)
½ Cup Urad dal
¼ Cup moong dal
2 cups curd
2 Tsp Sugar
¼ Tsp Asafoetida
1 Tsp Black salt
1 Tsp roasted cumin powder
1 Tsp Kashmiri chilli powder
2 Tbsp Pomegranate
1 Tsp chat masala
2 Tbsp Fine Sev
3-4 Tbsp Sweet tamarind chutney
2 Tbsp Oil
3 Tsp Salt
Method:
1) Rinse the lentils couple of times with water. Soak them in enough
water covered for 6-7 hours.
2) After soaking drain the water thoroughly. Put the lentils into a
blender and grind into a thick paste by adding 3 Tbsp of water. It should be
little grainy not too fine.
3) Transfer the batter to a bowl and whisk by hand in clockwise
direction for about 10 minutes. Don’t whisk in jig jag way. Whisk in one
direction only. This will make the batter light and fluffy.
4) Whether the batter is ready do a floating test. Take one bowl of
water. Put 1 Tsp of batter in the water. If it floats in water batter is ready.
If not whisk for another couple of minutes and repeat the test.
5) Cover and rest for 15 minutes. After rest add 1 Tsp salt and mix.
6) Grease an appe pan with oil. Pour 1 Tbsp of batter in each cavity.
Cover and cook for around 2-3 minutes. Turn the vadas. Cover and cook for
another 2 minutes. Once they are slightly golden remove to a plate.
7) Now in a bowl take 2-3 cups of warm water. Mix 1 Tsp salt and ¼ Tsp
Asafoetida. Add all the vadas in the water. Cover and soak for about 15-20
minutes.
8) In the mean time beat 2 cups of curd till smooth. Add 2 Tsp sugar, ½
Tsp salt and mix well.
9) After soaking of the vadas take the vada and press between your palm
to remove excess water.
10) For assembly, Take some vadas into a serving plate and cut into 4
parts. Pour curd over the vadas. Now pour sweet tamarind chutney. Next sprinkle
black salt, roasted cumin powder, chat masala and Kashmiri chilli powder as per
your taste. Finally garnish with fine sev and pomegranate and serve.
